Workshop #2: Wind Power

In Habana Lab's first Workshop, over 25 participants gathered to create vertical-axis turbines that were pushed by the wind (aerodynamic drag). The second workshop picked up where the first left off by examining a simple vertical axis turbine (the Lenz turbine) that uses aerodynamic lift to move faster than the wind and capture power. Related systems are becoming commercially available for small wind installations in urban areas. The workshop covered different types of turbines, and participants designed, built and tested turbines using equipment and material provided by the Lab. The experience from these workshops is assisting the Lab in developing a wind-powered installation at Fort Greene's Habana Outpost.

This workshop is OVER! It happened January 6th, 2007.

Here's a short video showing the type of turbine participants created.

The next workshop (#3) will be held Saturday, February 3rd, and will focus on the electronics required to convert kinetic energy to electrical energy.
